Oakland Raiders Slightly Below the NFL Population Mean for Wins thru Week 9

It is time to sound an alarm to alert the Oakland Raiders to get their act together. Earlier an article compared the Raiders to the 31 other teams in the NFL. In that article, we discovered that the Raiders are at the mode and median of the win-loss percentages. This means the team's performance is average and not excellent.

Now, we scanned the data for the number of wins thru Week 9. Again, the Raiders are in the middle of the distribution. Yes, there is a tie with two other teams in the AFC West, but when you compare the Raiders with all 32 teams, you see where they place in the distribution. Again, they are in the middle and clustered with six other NFL teams.

Their number of wins is slightly less than the population average. This means that the loss to Denver caused a downward shift. Also, note that the performance of the NFC is better than that of the AFC. In fact, the NFC has a team with a perfect record. The Green Bay Packers are holding their own with 8 wins and no losses.

If the goal of the Oakland Raiders is to be a Super Bowl contender, then they need to get their house in order. At this point, the Raiders are tied with this list of teams:

Titans	4
Chargers	4
Chiefs	4
Raiders	4
Cowboys	4
Bears	4
Buccaneers	4

Since the Raiders will play the San Diego Chargers in a few more days, this data will change, for better or worse.

As of today, the Raiders number of wins is below the population mean of 4.03. Another observation is the NFC is stronger than the AFC, if we consider the performance through Week 9.

This means that the Oakland Raiders are in the middle of the distribution of the AFC and the AFC is weaker than the NFC. With these facts before us, what is the probability of the Oakland Raiders moving up during the next half of the season and becoming a serious contender for the Super Bowl?

It can happen. It will only become a reality if the discipline, performance and determination of the team to get more victories can be enabled by strict, smart and strategic planning and implementation of the right plays, called in the right sequence and at the right time, from this point on.

If you want my opinion, there is definitely an anomaly in the situation with the Oakland Raiders. Something is amiss.
