Thanks to you Sister YAEL, and all your globe traveling experiences to write an exciting, sober tribute to Brother Warren Wells, of the †Pear Orchardâ€, in Beaumont.
As a youth in Adams elementary school I recall Willie Ray Smith of Charlton-Pollard, coached by others, including his father Professor Willie Ray Smith Sr., and Mother Georgia B. Smith, a home economics teacher at Dubbar Jr. H.S.
It had to be the Summer of 1964, that Warren Wells, Bubba Smith, Gale Sayers, Willie Ray Smith, Donnell Vallery, Earnie Ladd , and too many others to name here, were in Terrell Park, playing touch football.
When my memory serves me correctly, it was a site to behold for all, and especially, yours truly, watching, a cast of pre-FOOT Ball Capitol of the world; Beaumont, Texas, and Warren Wells, Gale Sayers, Willie Ray Smith Jr., were the greatest. Again, my family and I would like to thank you for this fine article, on such a worthy man, who had his triumphant (achievements in the NFL), challenges; yet, he performed for Beaumont, and other areas of this country and the world.
