What Will Oakland Raiders do with Michael Huff and Kamerion Wimbley in March?

Holla At Me Raider Nation!

Is this not The Longest Off-Season EVER!?!

With sooo much anticipation surrounding the team, I know that I'm not the only Raider Fanatic who just can not wait to see how Oakland will perform this season.

Unfortunately, that's a looong way down the road from where we are now. At present, the scouting combine has just ended which  means (to me) that now we're going to have to wait until April (an entire MONTH!!), just to find out what the Raiders are going to with respects to the draft. Forget about who's actually going to be on the field playing for the team.

However, there are a number of issues the Raiders must address (this month)first before they can decide what to do about the draft, let alone who's going to be on the field opening day. With that in mind let's take a quick look at

March Madness - Oakland Raider style.

As we know the draft is in April. However, right before the draft - March 26th thru March 28th there is an NFL owners meeting; It will be "interesting" to see if Mark Davis has anything to "contribute" to this meeting.

Late in March is also when the NFL awards teams there compensatory picks with our Raiders only having a 5th, and a 6th round pick in this years draft we definitely could use a couple of extra selections.

These "extra picks" should /could help the team to counter the loss of players like Nnamdi Asomugha & Zach Miller. Hell, while we're at it we might as well get some extra picks to make up for losing Robert Gallery (even though he wasn't all that great) and Thomas Howard.

While we're on the topic of players, and compensation - March 17th is the date when Kamerion Wimbley's 11 million dollar salary becomes guaranteed. I'm quite sure that Oakland knows what they want to do as it pertains to Wimbley's contract, however we're just going to have to wait to find out what that is.

On Another Note: - March 17th is also the day that teams can start to sign restricted free agents.

Wimbley isn't the only Oakland Raider who's going to be owned guaranteed money in March; Michael Huff will have a 4 million dollar roster bonus due to him March 15.

While these moves are important, there are even more important things that will have to transpire before Oakland deals with the Huff bonus, and Wimbley's contract.

March 13th is a very BIG day. This is when the league will begin its New Year. Furthermore this is the day when all teams (including Oakland) need to be under the salary cap.I believe that the number for our Raiders is 121 million. I also believe that we're about 11 million dollars over that number.

However, make sure you read Coach Jay Dee's article if you're looking for information about what Oakland needs to do as it pertains to the salary cap.

March 13th is not only the dead line for negotiating on the rights of players with less than three years in the league; It's also when unrestricted free agent trades begin.

As for next week: March 5th has a 1:00 p.m. dead line for team to use their franchise tag (stay tuned to see who Oakland "tags").
