College Professor uses Raider Nation Times Articles to Teach Analysis and Model Building
Damali Binta – Mar 26, 2012
There is so much NFL data available that a Calculus Two class launched a project to use analysis to build models to compare and contrast players and teams. The Oakland Raiders' wide receivers Jerry Rice and Warren Wells were compared and contrasted, using data from a qualitative analysis study done by a former Pittsburgh Steeler who is also an excellent analyst. This was done in 2007.
The first article of this type was published in a newsletter, whose editor is Dr. Don Small. Since Damali Binta's involvement with Calculus Reform, she and her students have been building and exploring models for discussions in academic and sports circles.
The Raider Nation Times will include some of these studies with the hope of stimulating sound debates and discussions of the progress and status of the Oakland Raiders in 2012.
