1976 Oakland Raiders Voted Greatest of All Time on NFL.com
Elias Trejo – Mar 30, 2012
The vote is officially in and the 1976 Oakland Raiders have been voted the Greatest Team of All Time on NFL.com. They beat the 2008 Steelers, 1993 Cowboys, 1978 Steelers, 1999 Rams, 1985 Bears and the 2000 Ravens to claim their title.
This team was built by the legendary Al Davis and featured many great players. This team featured future Hall of Famers, Fred Biletnikoff, Ted Hendricks, Willie Brown, and Art Shell. They were coached by John Madden. The team was loaded with more than just Hall of Famers. From top to bottom the 1976 Raiders were built to win and built to intimidate. Jack Tatum and George Atkinson patrolled the secondary. Phil Villapiano along with Hendricks were part of a strong group of linebackers. This was truly a great team. They finished the season 16-1 and defeated the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl XI 32-14 as they ended with a 13 game winning streak.
Many will disagree with the outcome and say there have been better teams than the 1976 Raiders. The truth is there is no way to tell who the greatest team of all time was and it will always be up for debate. One thing that is not up for debate is the strength of the Raider Nation. They did their part to make sure this team won this “tournament.” This victory belongs to the Raider Nation. Congratulations to the 1976 Raiders and the Raider Nation.
