Oakland Raiders Had a Decrease in Performance in 2011, even with the 8-8 Record: It's Got to Get Better!
Damali Binta – Apr 24, 2012
You may think that the Oakland Raiders' performance level was exactly the same as that of 2010 when you look at only the 8-8 record for two consecutive years. This is not so.
In 2011, there was a big drop in points difference between the Oakland Raiders and their opponents. In 2011, the opponents made more points, indicating a poor defense. In fact, the 2012 record shows the Raiders were up by 39 points when you compare their total points with those of the opponents.
In 2011, there was -74 points in the point difference category. This means that the performance dropped by 35 points in this category. Clearly, Reggie McKenzie and others were not pleased with this data.
Now if Hue Jackson wanted to keep his job, then the point difference data did not provide him with evidence to do so. In other words, overall, the Oakland Raiders declined in performance when compared to the 2010 record, under Tom Cable's leadership. Hence, the selection of Hue Jackson as the head coach was a questionable decision when you take a close look at the data.
You can be sure that the research team of which I am a part, will be looking at the 2010, 2011, and 2012 data to see if there are significant changes in performance as measured by several categories such as total points, points of opponents and point difference.
It will be heartbreaking if the data shows a downward turn rather than a surge upward.
Based on the careful decision-making and rearrangement of talent on the roster, it is believed that these dramatic changes are going to foster a higher success rate in 2012.
Only time will tell.
My prediction is that the Oakland Raiders are going to give the Dallas Texans a hard time at the first preseason game. Why? The newcomers have to prove a point. They must quickly demonstrate that they are much better than the 2011 team even in the preseason.
Pressure is a good thing for those who love competition. The passion to win often helps a competitor to overcome obstacles, and to prevail and be victorious.
Let’s hope there is a furnace burning deep in the hearts of the Oakland Raiders and that the fire and heat will drive them to phenomenal levels of success in 2012.
Come on, Oakland Raiders, pass the test and give us success in 2012!
