The addition of Matt Leinart, Greg Knapp and Johnny Holland are upward moves in the careers of this trio, and you can bet these guys are going to put their best foot forward to show that they deserve the opportunity to become Oakland Raiders.

So much has changed on the Raiders' roster and it seems like there are only a few fixed points such as retaining the services of Steve Wisniewski, Kelly Skipper and Al Saunders.

In a math class called topology, we say that if a complicated form is topologically equivalent to another, then there will be fixed points. Of course, the Oakland Raiders want more than equivalence, they want superior performance in 2012. Hence, the overhaul of the coaching staff and roster make a lot of sense, even if you talk about it from a topological standpoint.

In 2011, the Raiders did a flip-flop by winning the first game of the season by defeating the Broncos, and then were defeated by the Broncos after bye week. Now that Dennis Allen is the head coach, the expectation is that the Raiders will defeat the Broncos in a consistent streak.

On Oct. 9, 2011, the Raiders had an amazing victory over the Houston Texans. Even with the collective talents of Leinart, Knapp and Holland, the Oakland Raiders overcame the Texans, with intangibles and improbable events working to help them.

In 2012, the combined talents of the new trio and the wonderful intangibles and improbable events that can help the Raiders ought to guarantee a better outcome in 2012. This conjecture is set forth because of the observations and events on Oct. 9.

There is a big debate on whether the Oakland Raiders have the depth they need to be consistent and effective in 2012.

One poetic and wise expression says that "weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning." Let's hope we have a morning of joy in 2012.
