Raiders Release DB LeQuan Lewis
Oren Shiri – Jun 22, 2012
The Oakland Raiders announce the release of defensive back LeQuan Lewis on Friday afternoon. Lewis signed with the team earlier in the offseason as an undrafted free agent.
At Arizona State, Lewis played cornerback his senior season and made a name for himself with the Sun Devils. He racked up 26 tackles (21 solo), including two tackles for loss, four pass break-ups, a fumble recovery and an interception in 13 games.
However, with the Raiders, Lewis never quite caught on nor stood out to the coaching staff during OTA’s or mini-camps.
The Raiders are in middle of the break period prior to training camp and Lewis will not be joining them since he was cut before the full practices arrive. This lead to the possibility the Raiders want to find cap and/or roster space to sign a veteran free agent, possibly running back Cedric Benson who the team was showing interest in last week.
