Oakland Raiders to Participate in NFL Play 60 Challenge
Stuart Kovacs – Jun 28, 2012
The Oakland Raiders have announced that they have teamed up with the American Heart Association in an effort to participate in the NFL Play 60 Challenge, according to the team’s official site.
The NFL Play 60 Challenge was launched by the league in 2007 to encourage children to be physically active for at least an hour a day.
The main goal of this campaign is to eliminate the obesity that has become prevalent in children across the country. In fact, almost one-third of children and teenagers throughout the country are defined as obese or overweight.
The NFL Play 60 Challenge hopes to encourage schools to get their students to live more physically active lives. The program is free and offers resources to both students and teachers for the upcoming school year.
These resources include details on the six-week challenge, student signups, ways to promote the challenge in school, information to get students to become active, and ways to incorporate physical fitness in the classroom throughout the year.
For more information, visit the NFL Play 60 website or contact Julie Kaufmann who is the Senior Director for Community Health of the American Heart Association in the Greater Bay Area.
