Oakland Raiders: Team Reaches 4-Year, $26.6 Deal with Safety Tyvon Branch
Stuart Kovacs – Jul 14, 2012
The Oakland Raiders have agreed to a 4-year, $26.6 million deal with safety Tyvon Branch, according to Steve Wyche of NFL.com.
The team placed the franchise tag on the former Connecticut Huskie on March 1 in which they would have owed him $6.212 million in 2012.
Branch’s deal will reportedly include $17.1 million in guaranteed money.
Although not known yet, it is speculated that Branch will be making $3 million this upcoming season, which is significantly less than the salary the safety would have made if the two sides didn’t reach an agreement before Monday’s deadline.
In signing Branch to a 4-year deal, the team both locks up its young, talented safety for the foreseeable future as well as giving them more flexibility to sign either their unsigned draft picks or veteran free agents.
