Oakland Raiders WR Louis Murphy Reportedly Traded to Carolina Panthers
Stuart Kovacs – Jul 23, 2012
The Oakland Raiders have traded wide receiver Louis Murphy to the Carolina Panthers, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports.
While it is not yet known what the Raiders will be receiving for Murphy, it is likely a mid to late round draft pick.
It is being speculated by those covering the situation that the Raiders would be receiving a draft pick between the fifth and seventh rounds.
Murphy, who was a fourth round pick for the Raiders in 2009, was expected to be in a competitive position battle with fellow wide receivers such as Juron Criner and Rod Streater.
It is clear the team’s coaching staff was impressed enough by those two rookie wide receivers that Murphy became expendable.
Ironically enough, this is the second trade that the Raiders have made with the Panthers this offseason. On March 30, Oakland acquired running back Mike Goodson from the Panthers for offensive lineman Bruce Campbell.
The trading of Murphy comes two days after the former University of Florida Gator was a keynote speaker at a youth football clinic.
