Oakland Raiders Training Camp: News and Notes from Day 12

– Aug 12, 2012

On Sunday morning, the Oakland Raiders participated in their twelfth day of training camp practice. Here are some news and notes from various reporters of the team.

Sunday’s practice was a shortened one that was without pads, for the second straight day, according to Steve Corkran’s Twitter page.  This was so that the team could prepare for tomorrow’s preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The practice was also held prior to Sunday’s 1:00 PM PST Raider Nation Celebration that takes place at the O.co Coliseum.

On the injury front, wide receiver Duke Calhoun and linebacker Mario Kurn both tore their ACLs during Saturday’s practice, according to Corkran. After the practice, Raiders’ head coach Dennis Allen said that both players will need surgery and will be out for the entire season.

Running back Taiwan Jones (hamstring), punter Shane Lechler (knee), linebacker Aaron Curry (knee), wide receiver Denarius Moore (hamstring), wide receiver Eddie McGee (hamstring), running back Mike Goodson (neck), tight end Brandon Myers (shoulder)and offensive lineman Zach Hurd (head) all missed practice once again, according to Corkran.

According to Allen, Curry is still in Los Angeles seeing a specialist who is treating his injured knee. There is no timetable for his return, but Allen says that it is getting to the point where Curry’s availability for the start of the regular season is in question.

The Raiders used Sunday’s abbreviated practice without pads as a “walkthrough” for the game against the Cowboys.

Allen was seen leading the team in a pre-game warm-up drill, Corkran observed.

During the practice, most of the reps at quarterback went to Terrelle Pryor who will have spotlight on him tomorrow as he will receive a substantial amount of playing time.

Corkran observed the former Ohio State Buckeye having several nice passes. He had two nice passes to wide receiver Travionte Session and then a laser to wide receiver Juron Criner.

Pryor finished up the session on a positive note by zipping the ball to wide receiver Brandon Carswell and then completing a nice touchdown pass to undrafted rookie wide receiver DeAundre Muhammad.

As suspected, Allen said after practice that Carson Palmer will start at quarterback, Matt Leinart will come in second, and Terrelle Pryor third.

The only other story of note during the session was that second-year tight end Richard Gordon got most of the first-team reps. With Myers out of action, Gordon is expected to start tomorrow night’s game.

The Raiders play the Dallas Cowboys tomorrow night at 5:00 PM PST on ESPN national and KPIX locally.

Raider Nation Times will continue to monitor the team’s progress throughout the entire training camp period.
