Oakland Mayor Jean Quan to Speak at "Oakland Loves its Sports Teams Week" Rally
Stuart Kovacs – Aug 21, 2012
The city of Oakland will hold “Oakland Loves Its Sports Teams” Week in order to show its professional sports teams how much the city cares about them, according to the office of Mayor Jean Quan.
It will be held on Monday, August 27 at 11:00 AM at the amphitheater in front of Oakland’s City Hall (1 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza).
The Mayor, along with City Administrator Deanna J. Santana will lead the congregation of Alameda County and East Bay Civic and Business Leaders, Sports Celebrities, and most of all, fans of the Oakland Raiders and Oakland Athletics.
The festivities of “Oakland Loves Its Sports Teams” Week begin on September 10 when the Raiders host the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football and culminate on September 14 when the Athletics host the Baltimore Orioles.
The "Oakland Loves Its Sports Teams" Week will salute the Oakland A's and Oakland Raiders for being irreplaceable civic treasures that add significantly to the economy, identity, pride and culture of Oakland, Alameda County and the entire East Bay region.
Mayor Quan invites fans of both the Raiders and Athletics to attend the event in full team attire.
If possible, Raiders’ fans should dress in the infamous costumes donned by those who sit in the “Black Hole.”
If unable to be in costume, it is strongly suggested that the fans dress in the team colors for the Raiders (silver and black) or the Athletics (yellow and green). This is to show the support and dedication towards both teams.
For the members of Raider Nation who desperately want to see the Raiders remain in the city of Oakland: THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO BE HEARD!
In fact, this may be the last opportunity to make a statement in support of the Silver and Black as the speculation continues regarding the Raiders moving to a city such as Santa Clara or Los Angeles.
Raider Nation Times will continue to monitor the festivities of “Oakland Loves Its Sports Teams” Week and will update the loyal members of Raider Nation on any announcements regarding the event.
