Oakland Raiders: Oakland Loves its Sports Teams Week Rally to be Held Today
Stuart Kovacs – Aug 27, 2012
The city of Oakland will hold “Oakland Loves Its Sports Teams” Week in order to show its professional sports teams how much the city cares about them, according to the office of Mayor Jean Quan.
It will be held todday at 11:00 AM at the amphitheater in front of Oakland’s City Hall (1 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza).
Mayor Quan and City Administrator Deanna J. Santana will lead the rally which includes Alameda County and East Bay Civic and Business Leaders, sports stars, and most of all, fans of the Silver and Black.
The festivities of “Oakland Loves Its Sports Teams” Week begin on September 10 when the Raiders host the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football. It will conclude on September 14 when the Oakland Athletics host the Baltimore Orioles.
The "Oakland Loves Its Sports Teams" Week will salute the Oakland A's and Oakland Raiders for being irreplaceable civic treasures that add significantly to the economy, identity, pride and culture of Oakland, Alameda County and the entire East Bay region.
Mayor Quan hopes that fans of both the Raiders and Athletics will attend the event in full team costume.
If possible, Raiders’ fans should dress in the infamous costumes shown by those who sit in the “Black Hole.”
If unable to be in costume fans should dress in the team colors for the Raiders (silver and black) or the Athletics (yellow and green). This is to show the backing and devotion towards both teams.
For the members of Raider Nation who desperately want to see the Raiders remain in the city of Oakland: THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO BE HEARD!
In fact, this may one of the final chances to take a stand in support of the Raiders as the speculation continues regarding the Raiders moving to another city.
Raider Nation Times will continue to monitor the festivities of “Oakland Loves Its Sports Teams” Week and will update the loyal members of Raider Nation on any announcements regarding the event.
