Oakland Raiders Sign Long Snapper Nick Guess
John Doublin – Sep 12, 2012
According to Steve Corkran of Contra Costa Times, the Oakland Raiders have signed long snapper, Nick Guess and two other players to their eight-man practice squad.
Guess is a product of the University of Tennessee and was released by the Chargers earlier in the preseason.
Along with Guess, Oakland added recently released cornerback Coye Francies and defensive lineman Brandon Bair.
To make room for these three, the Raiders released wide receiver Brandon Carswell, defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga and seventh round pick, linebacker Nathan Stupar.
It's obvious that signing Guess is in response to the concussion to All-Pro long snapper, Jon Condo. However, the team may wait until later in the week to move Guess to the 53 man active roster so they can further evaluate the condition of Condo before their game in Miami against the Dolphins.
Bringing Francies back is clearly intended to bolster a thin secondary that has now lost Ron Bartell for a significant amount of time with a broken Scapula, (Shoulder blade).
Raider Nation Times will monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
