Michael Huff Getting An Opportunity to Practice at Cornerback
Elias Trejo – Sep 19, 2012
According to Paul Gutierrez of CSNBayArea.com safetey Michael Huff is getting reps at cornerback for the Oakland Raiders. Starting cornerbacks Ron Bartell and Shawntae Spencer are out with injuries, and the Raiders have been scrambling to find cornerbacks to replace them. Huff was told last year by the old regime that he would be making the change to cornerback, but the new coaches told him he'd be staying at safety.
Oakland needs to do something to make sure the secondary is stronger than it was last week against Miami and putting Huff at cornerback could be the best answer for the moment. Expect Matt Giordano to get the start at safety if Huff starts at cornerback. Oakland will be facing a strong passing game as Ben Roesthlisberger comes to town. The Steelers feature a deep receiving line up that includes, Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown and Emmanual Sanders.
This move could prove to be a smart one as Huff has the ability and skills to be a solid cover corner and it would come as a surprise if he is their best option as their No. 1 guy until Spencer and Bartell are able to come back. Oakland faces an 0-3 start for the first time since 2006 when they host the Steelers at O.co stadium.
