Jon Gruden was in his element… in front of a crowd who all leaned forward, eager to hear his every word and paint a mental picture of memories past with the Raiders and Buccaneers whom he coached from 1998-2008.  For eleven successful, tumultuous and sometimes disappointing years in the National Football League, Gruden roamed the sidelines with a harrowing scowl of consternation, mostly for the officials. 

HOF Exhibit is Excellent, But There Should Be More Relevance to Host University

On April 12, 2017, a couple of students walked with me to the museum that displayed the Canton Hall of Fame exhibit on the campus of Texas Southern University, in Houston, Texas. The display was excellent, but I was disappointed that no mention of the veterans who have been recognized on a HOF Honor Roll was included to encourage those at the host university.

Raider Fans Are Everywhere, Even in My Classroom

I had a big smile on my face when I realized that the husband of one of my students is a Raider fan. He sent me a message that he has been reading my articles for years. As a math professor and sports writer I often compare the data of teams and of players. I have written more than 1600 articles since 2008. It is so good to encounter Raider fans who share the love I have for the Oakland Raiders.
